The State of Maryland is facing one of its worst fiscal crises ever. On August 25, 2009, Governor O’Malley announced cuts to the State budget that included several services provided to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There was a 15% reduction to the resource coordination budget, a 2% reduction to provider agencies, a 10% reduction to Rolling Access, and a 50% cut to the adult respite budget.
As the disabilities community struggles to absorb these cuts, we know that the State’s budget deficit is continuing to grow, and more cuts may be imminent. Service Coordination, Inc. is working to educate the families we serve and the community on the impact these cuts are having on people with disabilities, and the nonprofit agencies that support them.
